10 games to watch this winter in Shenendehowa athletics

CLIFTON PARK — There’s no rest for the weary.

While the high school fall sports season in Shenendehowa seemingly just ended, the Plainsmen’s winter teams have long been readying for their campaigns.

Here are 10 of the most-anticipated sporting events this winter season for the Plainsmen teams, as presently scheduled:

GETTING ROLLING

Who: Shenendehowa Nordic ski

When: Dec. 5, 10 a.m.

Where: Queensbury High School

What: The Plainsmen’s cross country ski teams will head to a Section II skate invitational to kick off their seasons.

EARLY-SEASON TEST

Who: Shenendehowa bowling

When: Dec. 8, 4:15 p.m.

Where: Spare Time Lanes

What: To start the second week of its league slate, the Shenendehowa bowling team will welcome rivals from Niskayuna for a matchup.

SEEKING REVENGE

Who: Shenendehowa girls’ basketball

When: Dec. 15, 7 p.m.

Where: Shenendehowa High School

What: The Plainsmen will take on Bethlehem in a rematch of last season’s Section II Class AA championship game, in which Bethlehem upset top-seeded Shenendehowa.

OLD FRIENDS

Who: Shenendehowa hockey

When: Dec. 16, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Clifton Park Ice Area

What: Annually the top teams in Section II, the Plainsmen and archrival Saratoga Springs will meet for the first of at least two meetings during the 2015-16 season.

BROTHERLY LOVE

Who: Shenendehowa boys’ basketball

When: Dec. 22, 7 p.m.

Where: Shenendehowa High School

What: In a possible preview of this year’s Section II Class AA title game, the Plainsmen will play host to CBA in the best high school hoops matchup of the holiday season.

FINALLY

Who: Shenendehowa Alpine ski

When: Dec. 29, 9:30 a.m.

Where: Royal Mountain

What: Nearly two months after winter sports teams are allowed to practice, this competition in the first scheduled event for the Plainsmen.

PROVING GROUND

Who: Shenendehowa wrestling

When: Jan. 15-16, 9 a.m.

Where: Sullivan County Community College

What: The best Plainsmen grapplers will head to the Eastern States Classic tournament for a chance to improve their state rankings against the region’s top wrestlers.

POOL POWER

Who: Shenendehowa boys’ swimming

When: Jan. 28, 4:30 p.m.

Where: Shaker High School

What: The Plainsmen will look to topple defending champion Shaker a year after the Blue Bison halted Shenendehowa’s 94-meet winning streak in league action.

TITLES UP FOR GRABS

Who: Shenendehowa indoor track and field

When: Jan. 31, 8 a.m.

Where: University at Albany

What: All the squads in the Suburban Council will get together for an all-day event for both boys and girls to crown league champions.

SUBURBAN CHEER

Who: Shenendehowa cheer

When: Feb. 6, 9 a.m.

Where: Mohonasen High School

What: For the competition season for the Shenendehowa cheer team, few events will be more competitive than the Suburban Council’s championships.
