Shenendehowa basketball seasons end, but more awards come

CLIFTON PARK — The Suburban Council released its all-league teams Tuesday for boys’ and girls’ basketball, with Shenendehowa senior guards Kevin Huerter and Carly Boland earning the respective Player of the Year awards.

Huerter was also this season’s Mr. New York Basketball award winner, while Boland was a nominee for the Miss New York Basketball award.

Joining Huerter on the boys’ first team were Troy’s Daniel Buie, Colonie’s Isaiah Moll, Guilderland’s Andrew Sischo, and CBA’s Mike Wynn. The girls’ first team consisted of Mohonasen’s Saeeda Abdul-Aziz, Shenendehowa’s Sydney Brown, Bethlehem’s Jenna Giacone, Columbia’s Selena Lott, and Shaker’s Cece Mayo.   

Giacone was also a nominee for the Miss New York Basketball award.

The boys’ second team included Niskayuna’s Andrew Evans, Shaker’s Brian Hayes, Averill Park’s Isaiah Moak, Shenendehowa’s Mike Pizziketti, and CBA’s Sloan Seymour. The third team consisted of Saratoga Springs’ Adam Anderson, Shenendehowa’s Luke Hicks, Niskayuna’s Tommy Kelly, Troy’s Jack McLaren, Albany’s Isaiah Scurry, and Saratoga Springs’ Alex Skaine.

The girls’ second team included Saratoga Springs’ Kerry Flaherty, Albany’s Ayanna Hunter, Averill Park’s Samantha Laranjo, Bethlehem’s Emily Wander, and Troy’s Sabrina Wolfe. Making up the third team were Saratoga Springs’ Dolly Cairns, Albany’s Leah Dollard, Colonie’s Erin Fouracre, Ballston Spa’s Jordan Hipwell, and Colonie’s Aliyah Wright.

Shenendehowa’s Tony Dzikas was named the boys’ Coach of the Year, while no winner was announced for the girls’ teams.

Both Shenendehowa basketball teams had their season end this past Saturday. The boys’ team was upset in the state semifinals, while the girls’ squad lost a thriller in the state championship game.

The boys’ finished the season 24-1, while the girls’ were 22-3.
