CLIFTON PARK — Kevin Huerter was selected Wednesday to a 26-player pool from which the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s U18 national team will be picked.

The dozen players eventually selected will represent the United States in the July 19-23 FIBA Americas U18 Championships in Chile.

Huerter, a senior at Shenendehowa who will play next season at the University of Maryland, swept all of New York’s major high school boys’ basketball player of the year awards for the 2015-16 season. The 6-foot-6 guard also helped the Plainsmen to a state title in the 2014-15 season.

University of Texas head coach Shaka Smart is the U18 team’s head coach, while Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon and University of Connecticut head coach Kevin Ollie are Smart’s assistants.

The first training camp for the team is from June 14-18 in Colorado, with final team selections coming after a July 11-15 camp in Texas.
