Sheriff’s deputies: Man died while trying to fix truck

Daily Gazette Staff Report

CLIFTON PARK — A motorist died Monday evening after a crash on Bernini Drive, according to a report from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Herbert F. Sieber, 50, of 720 Tanner Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, after he was found near his vehicle, which was found in a ditch, deputies said.

Deputies performed CPR on Sieber until members of the Jonesville Fire Department and Ballston Lake EMS arrived and took over treatment at the scene, deputies said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Anthony Perniciaro, according to the police report.

Deputies investigating the crash determined Sieber stopped his Ford F-550 Super Duty truck on Bernini Drive due to a mechanical problem. He got under the vehicle and was trying to make a repair when the truck began to roll and dragged him across the road, into the ditch, deputies said.

The incident was still being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office collision reconstruction unit.
