Instant delivery of food is saving time, but this service of food aggregators is costing a lot. Those who avail their services in the country have to spend an additional Rs 9-11 thousand crore annually. This information has come out from a report by integrated marketing agency Maverick India. This report is based on the data of three major food aggregators – Swiggy, Zomato and Magicpin.
The report compares the charges of food aggregators and restaurants’ own delivery platforms. According to this, food aggregators are charging an average of Rs 46 more than the orders placed on restaurants’ channels. This is putting an average additional burden of Rs 12,000 on an Indian family in metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai every year. According to the report, aggregators are charging 150-200% more. At the same time, 46% of restaurants do not charge any delivery fee on their own channels. Aggregators also charge Rs 2 more for packaging than restaurants. This charge puts an additional burden of Rs 400 crore annually on customers. There is no saving even with the premium membership of food aggregators.
