REXFORD-The Rexford Fire Station was painted red Wednesday, June 17 — but unlike the Queen of Hearts’ roses, this red came in the version of something edible, strawberries.

Stepping inside the Rexford Fire District Auxiliary’s annual Strawberry & Ice Cream Festival, the sweet scent of the soft, ruby-colored, seed-studded fruit was everywhere.
Ice cream sundaes and strawberry-slathered shortcakes were served up, balloon animals were inflated and twisted into figures and cartons of the heart-shaped hand-picked berries were sold.

The attractive and tasty treats boosted a good cause, as well, helping the auxiliary support the firefighters and their mission, and dozens came through the doors to take advantage of it.
