Title: Samir Modi Arrested in Delhi on Rape and Intimidation Charges

Samir Modi, brother of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi and Managing Director of Modicare, was arrested by Delhi Police at Indira Gandhi International Airport following allegations of rape and criminal intimidation. The arrest took place on Thursday evening, a senior police official confirmed.

A woman filed a complaint five days prior, claiming that Samir Modi had committed rape and threatened her. The complaint states that the incident occurred earlier, and following this, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections. Modi was apprehended based on this FIR.

Samir Modi is a prominent figure in direct selling, spearheading Modicare, a company he founded. His arrest adds another chapter to his public life, which has seen legal disputes beyond this case. In mid-2024, he was involved in a family feud with his mother, Bina Modi, over the distribution of a large inheritance following the death of KK Modi in 2019. Samir Modi had approached the Supreme Court, alleging that the trust deed laid out by his father had not been followed in the inheritance matters.

Police sources say the arrest was carried out without incident at the airport, after processing the complaint. The woman’s allegations of intimidation along with rape triggered immediate action. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the claims, including when the alleged offences took place and gathering evidence.

Legal proceedings are expected to follow, including further questioning of Modi and collection of testimonies. The accused may face charges under sections related to non-consensual sexual acts and threatening behavior.

The case has drawn attention due to Samir Modi’s public profile and previous legal controversies. It remains to be seen how the investigation will unravel, particularly with regard to supporting evidence, statements from both parties, and whether any further arrests or charges will emerge.

Authorities have stated they are treating the matter seriously and will be transparent in handling the case. Modi’s legal team has not yet issued a public statement.
